Alphil Guilaran, EPC | Executive Director, Financial Literacy Counsel Inc.

Alphil is the Executive Director and co-founder of the Financial Literacy  Counsel which began as a university student club in 1999. His training and work experience included business development and portfolio management research for CIBC World Markets and portfolio management administration for RBC Dominion Securities.  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of British Columbia in 2000 specializing in Political Science and Economics and completed the Insurance Council of BC Course in 1998 and the Canadian Securities Course in 1999.  He is also an MDRT qualifying member.

Alphil and his team of legal, accounting, and financial management specialists design and implement financial solutions with a particular emphasis on guiding professionals and business owners with retirement, inheritance and business succession planning to ensure wise stewardship of financial resources and promote inter-generational family harmony.  

Vince Schembri, CPA | President, Clydesdale Services Inc.   

Vince Schembri serves as President of Clydesdale Services Inc., and has spent the last 20 years working in a variety of finance & accounting and operational positions that has led to hands on experience in financial accounting, cost accounting, financial analysis, management and sales. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) registered in the State of Delaware, USA, and a graduate from the B.C. Institute of Technology in Financial Management. He enjoys most sports and is an active volunteer at his church.

Denise Caldwell, B.A. | Counsellor, Burnaby Counselling Group 

Denise Caldwell has been counseling at the Burnaby Counselling Group since 1984. She works with individuals of diverse backgrounds, facilitating greater insight and understanding about the place to which their lives have led them. Denise is also gifted in working with clients to develop greater perspective as they encounter challenges and barriers in their faith.

Some of the key areas that Denise works with are: women's issues, depression, anxiety, mid-life issues and aging, grief and loss, spiritual development and formation, compassion fatigue and burnout.

Denise is also a well known speaker and group facilitator, who is able to provide insight in a way that both challenges and entertains. Her witty, compelling speaking style about human relationships and spirituality is sought after by churches, women’s groups and national organizations. 

Carlene Van Tongeren, B.A., M.A., R.C.C., | Executive Director, Burnaby Counselling Group    

Carlene is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from The University of British Columbia. Through your work with Carlene, she will help you understand yourself more deeply and help create the change you need in your life to achieve your personal and relationship goals. Carlene integrates creativity from her background in the performing arts and goal-directedness from her experience as a competitive athlete to create a motivating counselling experience.

Carlene has been recognized as a highly trained scholar and skilled therapist throughout her career. She has been selected for honors including the BC Premier’s Award of Excellence, Simon Fraser University’s Best All Around Graduate, and a finalist for Vancouver’s YWCA Women of Distinction Award. Her approach to creating individual and interpersonal change is based on a standard of excellence in training and an excitement for helping you reach your potential.
